In context

God goes on giving Moses the plans. Aaron and his sons are to be washed, dressed in their holy clothes and anointed, with seven days of offerings to set them apart as priests (Exodus 29:4–9, 35). Every day two lambs are to be offered, one in the morning and one at evening (29:38–39). Then God says, “I will dwell among the children of Israel, and will be their God” (29:45).

There is to be a small gold altar where Aaron burns incense every morning and evening (30:1–8). Every man twenty and older counted in a census gives half a shekel, about a sixth of an ounce of silver, rich and poor alike (30:13–15). God names the craftsmen: Bezalel of the tribe of Judah, filled with the Spirit of God, and Oholiab of the tribe of Dan (31:2–6). The Sabbath is to be “a sign between me and you,” and anyone who works on it is to be put to death (31:13–15). Then God gives Moses two stone tablets “written with God’s finger” (31:18).

A word of hope
Yahweh, your God, is among you, a mighty one who will save. He will rejoice over you with joy. He will calm you in his love. He will rejoice over you with singing.

Zephaniah 3:17 · God says he will dwell among Israel (Exodus 29:45); Zephaniah says the Lord is “among you” and “will rejoice over you with singing.”

For families

Aaron and his sons were to be washed, dressed and anointed together, and to lay their hands together on the head of each offering (Exodus 29:4–10, 15, 19). Aaron’s holy garments were to pass to “his sons after him,” worn by the son who became priest in his place (29:29–30).

Aaron’s holy clothes were to be handed down to his son. What has been handed down in your family, or what would you like to hand down?
