In context

Elihu goes on. People cry out under the weight of oppression, he says, but no one asks, “Where is God my Maker, who gives songs in the night?” (Job 35:9–10). God “delivers the afflicted by their affliction” (36:15), and he is greater than anyone can know: “The number of his years is unsearchable” (36:26).

Then Elihu describes a storm: rain from the clouds, thunder that is God’s voice, lightning, snow, ice and cold out of the north (36:27–37:13). “Stand still,” he tells Job, “and consider the wondrous works of God” (37:14). Elihu’s words end with chapter 37. He is not mentioned again, and at the end the Lord speaks only of Eliphaz and his two friends (42:7). In the next chapter the Lord himself answers Job “out of the whirlwind” (38:1).

A word of hope
Yahweh will command his loving kindness in the daytime. In the night his song shall be with me: a prayer to the God of my life.

Psalms 42:8 · Elihu speaks of God “who gives songs in the night” (Job 35:10); in this psalm the writer says, “In the night his song shall be with me.”
